My Five

I never really seriously intended to take up this blog, so... I'm still surprised I ventured to this site again.

I thought I'd create a My Five. Rather similar to the Hindu series on movies and music. Only, mine is going to be on books.

The funniest books I've ever read, actually. Hope this inspires you to check em out. One way or another.

Oh and its not in order.

1. The Life And Times Of The Thunderbolt Kid: Bill Bryson.

I first got hooked onto Bill Bryson after accidentally on purpose flicking my friends copy of A Short History Of Nearly Everything. Funniest stuff ever. The guy SPEAKS to me. Just wish my childhood was as exciting. He makes the most mundane things appear as exciting as..food.( My passion being food)

2. Three Men On a Boat: Jerome K Jerome.

I think this was the first book to get me laughing so much that i fell off my chair, hit my head rather badly, rolled all over the floor, and ..continued laughing. The antics of Montgomery, and the packing fiasco particularly gets me each time. I think I was about 10, sitting in the library. I went up the librarian, clutching my sides and told her I loved her for keeping this book in the otherwise shitty library.

3. HitchHikers Guide to the Galaxy: Douglas Adams.

One of the biggest regrets of my life is that Adams passed away before I could meet him, and give him a great big kiss for absolutely brightening up my life. This was the reason I survived through a trip to Bangalore..and more.

4. Diplomatic Baggage: Brigid Keenan.

I came across this book in one of those 'GREAT AMERICAN BOOK SALES' sorta sales, where you get random priceless books for about 30 bucks. I finally got around to reading this, and BOY. Keenan has got to be my soulmate.

5. Pigs Have Wings : P G Wodehouse.

Classic Wodehouse, I bought this book at some dingy shady stop in the middle of nowhere while travelling to ..nowhere I think. And it promptly got flicked by my Dads colleagues' daughter, who feigns innocence every time I tentatively bring it up. Though almost all of Wodehouses' books are hilarious, this one was the first I read, the one that I've never forgotten. *sheds a tear*
